Project SOCOPSE (Source Control of Priority Pollutants in Europe)

Project Summary :
Timetable: September 2006 – August 2009
Responsible researcher: Ing. Katarína Šilhárová
Other researchers: Ing. Peter Tolgyessy, CSc., Ing. Zoltán Krascsenits, Ing. Branislav Vrana, PhD., Ing. Monika Supeková

The project SOCOPSE is solved within the programme EU 6FP PRIORITA 1.1.6.3, sub-project Global Change and Ecosystems.
With new legislative regulations, which form a part of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), the need of new strategies for priority pollutants (PP) control has arised. Regional offices, industrial sector and also EU policy makers require implementing the WFD and feasible and effective measures for decision-making.
The global aim of the project is to support implementation process of the WFD by providing directives and supporting tools for decision-making in PP management. To meet this aim the following activities were proposed:
Implement analysis of material flow for selected priority pollutants
Evaluate available and new measures and PP management possibilities
Develop tools for decision-making support for identification and selection of relevant measures at the European, national and regional level
Evaluate different measures by using supporting tools for decision-making in sample studies
Enable development of collective action plans (e.g. water management river basin plans) with enclosure of wide public (industry, administration offices, general public and non-governmental organisations)
Disseminate information and outcomes to general public and experts and closely communicate with industrial organisations, research workplaces networks, administration offices and non-governmental   organisations

The project SOCOPSE is focused on support of implementation process of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) by providing supporting tools for decision making at management of priority pollutants (DSS - Decision Support System). The WRI is active researcher in the task frame within the work package 2 (WP2) of the project SOCOPSE, (Analysis of Material Courses for Priority Pollutants) and work package 5 (WP5 - case study) applications DSS with an example of the Váh Riverbasin.
The main activity of the WRI in the project is the case study in the Váh Riverbasin. The first version of the report of the Case study WP5 will be available for processing a comprehensive report in March 2009.
