The objective/ aim(s): support to implement water management system on the level of river basin in Turkey through reinforcement of institutions and water management tools used in different river basins, enabling proposal of the framework for activities in the area of water policy.
The purpose of the project: to help Turkey to harmonise legislation with the European Union legislation in the area of water management, Water Framework Directive   2000/60/EC as of  23th October 2000, Directive 91/271/EEC on Urban Waste Water Treatment as of 21st  May 1991 and Council Directive 76/464/EEC of 4 May 1976 on pollution caused by certain hazardous substances discharged into the aquatic environment and related directions to achieve full implementation of water legislation by the day of Turkey’s accession to the EU.  
The recipient country: The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) is a coordinator of the Turkish consortium and the main institution in Turkey responsible for development of water management. It needs to develop decision tools for river basin management.

 The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has general role to coordinate development and implementation of environmental policy in Turkey
 The Ministry of Health plays an important role in the defined aspects of environment protection via the responsibility for public health
 The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Areas responsible for use of soil and water resources and monitoring of water pollution in rural areas.
 The Bank of provinces (Iller Bankası) is part of the Ministry of Public Works and Living as well as public works related to water supply and waste water drainage and sewerage system and waste water treatment

The budget of the project is in the amount of 1.988.071 EUR.
