Gabčíkovo Waterworks, Čunovo Site – calibration of hydraulic structures

Calibration of weir structures of Čunovo waterworks made between 23 August 2008 and 5 September 2008 was implemented fully in line with the requirements of the contractor Water Management Construction and without technical and operational problems.
Four weir fields were measured (area with stilling pool and area without stilling pool of the weir in floodplain, bypass weir area and central weir area) always for two sustained operational levels and for different graded openings – uplifting/taking down the weir constructions within discharge and operational capacity of related structures. For each position of damming three measures by current meters were performed and approximately 8 regular measurements were done by sonar sound. With regard to available discharges the calibration covered only 20-40 % of full capacity of weir field.
Measuring curves of waste channel for the calculation of weir backwater were prepared out of the records of water level measurements during calibration, records of common operational manipulation for the years 2006 – 2007 and available records of flood manipulation in 2002.
Consequently the basic parameters for the calculation of complete capacity curves of weirs for common operational and flood discharge into old channel were determined out of processed results of calibration measurements.
The results were capacity curves which are recommended to be included into new operating instructions of Gabčíkovo Waterworks – Čunovo and into complex waterworks operation managing system.
