 | Ing. Vladimír Kozlík, CSc. - Director in the years 1952 – 1958 - Civil engineer, water-manager, practitioner, expert on erosion - incorporated Drainage System Department to Department of Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water Supply and Waste Water Treatment - established experimental stations |

Juraj Furdík - Director in the years 1959 – 1970 - Civil engineer - The department of Drainage and Soil Amelioration was disjoined to the Research Institute of Agricultural Irrigation The branch in Bratislava was made independent from the Water Research Institute in Prag and transferred to budgetary organisation. |
 | Mgr. Ing. Anton Sikora, CSc. - Director in the years 1971 – 1990 - Civil engineer - changed WRI from budgetary organisation to government-subsidized organization - merged WRI with Vodorozvoj (1976) |
 | RNDr. Ján Ardó - Director in the years 1990 – 1991 - Hydro-biologist - restructured the WRI according to the requirements of new market economy |

Juraj Brtko, CSc. - Director in the years 1996-2005 - Chemistry engineer His merit was an establishment of the National Water Reference Laboratory (NWRL) in the year 1997 and Calibration laboratories in 2003 and their accreditation in compliance with the standard STN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. |
