Project activities

1. Organizing the information campaign focused on general public:
  • 1.1.  Media campaign - short spots and interviews in local and national television; interviews in radio, press releases, articles in magazines, weekly papers and professional news letters (responsible institution - SEA).
  • 1.2. Short film issued on DVD as well, promoting the water importance, floods and droughts, water pollution and waste water treatment, economic utilization, etc. Short film will be focused on general public, teachers and older students at secondary school. The film is intended to be broadcasted on different film festivals and exhibition events related to environmental topics, in TV and at schools (responsible institution - WRI).
  • 1.3. T-shirts promoting the project and website distributed at conferences, workshops, exhibitions, envirofilm, in main towns during “Water Day” and other events (responsible institution - DAPHNE).
  • 1.4. Leaflets:
  • 1st for farmers – defining problems with water caused by agriculture, related legislative obligations, and possible solutions,
  • 2nd for mayors and local authorities – defining problems with water caused by polluters, introducing relevant legislation, responsibilities and possible solutions,
  • 3rd for public – presenting problems with water related to households and possible solutions. The leaflets will be distributed within project activities, at various water and environment related events and by students to households (responsible institution - DAPHNE).
2. Organizing interactive mobile exhibition for children and public showing and emphasizing the project topics in demonstrative, playful and educational way. The part of exhibition will be aimed at presentation of the short film (1.2). The exhibition will be presented in different regions of Slovakia (responsible institution - WRI).

Compiling the website focused on schools and general public comprising of explanatory (the explanation of the principles of WFD); practical (interactive activities/tasks about the water importance and tips for effective use) parts and on-line communication (responsible institution - WRI).

4. Preparing and printing educational materials will include
  • 4.1. Designing and printing picture book for children from kindergartens,
  • 4.2. Developing and printing handbooks for basic and secondary schools dealing with water topic. Last two will be designed for 3 age groups (1st - 4th class of basic school = primary education, level 1 of ISCED, 5th – 8th class of basic school = lower secondary education – level 2 of ISCED, secondary school = secondary education – level 3 of ISCED).The handbooks will consist of work sheets that will be used as complementary material during the classes. A set of teaching tools will be prepared to support the use of handbook during the classes
  • 4.3. Developing and printing posters for above mentioned three education levels. Posters will be placed at schools (responsible institution - DAPHNE)
5. Organizing special events for particular target groups to promote the water importance and to instruct them how to present the topic for beneficiaries:
  • 5.1. Training program for teachers focused on presentation of using the prepared educational materials and teaching tools in teaching process in basic and secondary schools (responsible institution - DAPHNE).
  • 5.2. Educational program for kindergartens, basic and secondary schools – aimed at stressing the importance of the water for life and on how to save it in everyday life. The program will use visual, interactive and creative tools and active involvement of students into program. It will also include the excursion to the technical and chemical laboratories of Water Research Institute (responsible institution - DAPHNE).
  • 5.3. Interactive competition for schools: launched via website, will directly involve pupils of basic schools and students of secondary schools into virtual river basin management in an attractive form (responsible institution - DAPHNE).
  • 5.4. Seminars for mayors and regional environmental authorities´ officers focused on how to motivate public to apply the water saving and proper water treatment measures in households and gardens and concentrate on the main polluters in their region to prevent and reduce water pollution (responsible institution - WRI).
  • 5.5. Workshops for water managers - Ministry of Environment of SR, Slovak Water Management Enterprise, water supply companies, local environmental authorities and  Slovak Towns and Villages Association stimulating the communication in order to search the most effective ways of mutual communication regarding water management (responsible institution - WRI).
6. Monitoring of the project impact on:
  • 6.1. General public and state institutions (SVP, water supply companies, local environmental authorities and regional environmental authorities, Slovak Towns and Villages Association) by questionnaire distributed electronically (responsible institution - WRI).
  • 6.2. Environmental problem by questionnaire distributed at exhibitions, film projecting, workshops, seminars and other water and nature related events (responsible institution - WRI).
7. Communication and dissemination of the project and its results will be done mostly through website and its on-line communication activities; permanent installation of the exhibition on WRI and film projecting at conferences, seminars and workshops on water topics organized by WRI and MoE.
