We organise proficiency testing programmes in the application of:
- chemical and radiochemical methods;
- biological methods;
- sampling methods.
Proficiency tests are evaluated anonymously, and test results are statistically evaluated in accordance with ISO 13528. Results are announced in a Final International Comparative Test Report, which includes a Certificate of Correctness certifying that the test results are correct and an annex containing the results. Any objection to the organisation, administration or evaluation of an international comparative test should be lodged in writing to the test coordinator within 30 days of the date on which the objection was raised.
Interested? Please fill in the respective application form and send it to the NRL, or contact the PT coordinator directly.
Programmes related to the application of chemical and radiochemical methods
In connection with the application of chemical and radiochemical methods, we carry out the following:
- radiochemical analysis;
- inorganic trace analysis;
- organic trace analysis;
- basic physico-chemical analysis.
Water samples taken are prepared and analysed in the NRL’s accredited testing laboratory. In connection with the application of chemical methods, we determine the parameters of water quality, depending on the type of water and the purpose for which the samples are analysed. We also analyse model samples, natural samples, and enriched natural samples. For the preparation of model samples, we use commercially available certified reference materials or other reference materials. Natural water samples are selected on the basis of long-term water source monitoring.
Programmes related to the application of biological methods
In connection with the application of biological methods, we perform the following:
- hydrobiological water analysis;
- microbiological water analysis.
The water samples taken are prepared and analysed in the NRL’s accredited testing laboratory. For hydrobiological and microbiological analyses, both natural and model samples can be used. Natural samples are taken in localities that are year-round monitored. Natural water samples taken for hydrobiological tests are enriched with algae and cyanobacteria cultures obtained from specialised collections (i.e. from the Botanical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, or from the Botanical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences). Natural water samples for microbiological tests are enriched with reference strains obtained from collections listed in the World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WDCM).
Water sampling programmes
We provide the following services:
- drinking-water sampling;
- surface-water sampling;
- wastewater sampling.
Water samples are taken at selected sampling points. We assess the proficiency of sampling teams in view of the nature of activities performed within the scope of interlaboratory comparative testing (ICT). In addition to the statistical evaluation of the results of analyses of selected water sample indicators, we emphasise water sampling, the sampling equipment applied, the sampling staff’s theoretical knowledge, and assessing the sampling documentation used during water sampling. This is performed in accordance with the requirements imposed by the applicable laws and technical standards concerning the abstraction of specific water matrices.
